Boosters of other teams from other eras all have their arguments, but this Essex team is certainly in the conversation. Saturday, they will be part of a North squad that will try to defeat the South team in the North-South Senior Bowl Classic played at Middlebury College's Youngman Stadium at noon. They will be joined by teammates Jay McCormack, Kevin Jenko and Adam Slocum.  

Ian Learned threw a 42-yard touchdown pass to Colby Dobransky and a 32-yarder to Matt Graham as Stafford/East Windsor defeated Housatonic/Wamogo 20-12 Monday in a Pequot Conference Uncas Division game in Falls Village. Ben Tweedie also ran 8 yards for a touchdown for Stafford/East Windsor (2-7). Zach Williams had two catches for 52 yards and a touchdown for Housatonic/Wamogo (1-7).

Rensselaer County Legislator Michael Stammel, R-Rensselaer, won re-election, according to the county Board of Elections' unofficial tally of absentee ballots and election night results reported today.  

A pair of county Legislature seats is mathematically within reach for candidates currently trailing behind when absentee ballots are opened and counted, and that count will decide another that is very much up in the air. Conventional wisdom holds that absentee ballots tend to divide along the same lines as votes cast on machines the day of the election. That will make re-election difficult — but not impossible — for two incumbents, Democrat Keith Hammond and Republican Chairman of the Legislature Neil K
